All coins share the same design by James Earle Fraser. The 2008 Gold Buffalo Celebration Coin came in a special packaging and it was an ounce $50 of pure .99.99% gold.
On November 10, 2008 The US Mint announced it will discontinue all American Buffalo Uncirculated Gold Coin as well as the Fractional 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz and the 4 coin package. Only the 1 ounce $50 gold proof coin will remain for future Buffalo Gold Coins.
