Previously announced to be cancelled the 2009 Gold Buffalo Coins had a rough start. But finally they were offered to the public on October 15, 2009 with a mintage number of 200,000 coins which were sold out by December 4th, 2009. The demand for the 2009 Gold Buffalo was no surprise as the series as whole have continued to gain ground since they were initially released in 2006.
The overall design remains the same from previous iterations borrowing both obverse and reverse designs from the 1913 nickel known as the "Indian Head Nickel" or the "Buffalo Nickel." The 2009 Gold Buffalo was released in 2 different versions with the bullion investor friendly in October 15th, 2009 and the Collector Proof Version in October 29th, 2010.
