The 2010 $50 Gold Buffalo Proof Coin was released on June 3, 2010 at the price of $1,510.00. The 1 oz .9999 fine gold, 24-karat gold coin marks the 5th year of production and the 2010 Gold Buffalo Proof was expected to have a high amount of sales and so far the sales have been lower than the expectations, many reasons can be attributed to this, one being the price of gold keeps going up and two the 2010 American Gold Eagles have been selling extremely well this year, they had the best year in sales since 1999.

The design remains unchanged for this edition it continues to showcase the design of James Earle Fraser's extremely popular Buffalo Nickel design. The obverse has a portrait of a Native American, said to be a composite of three Indian chiefs. The reverse contains an image of an American buffalo, also known as a bison.

2009 $50 Gold Buffalo Proof Coin. Released October 29, 2009.

The United States Mint released the 2009 American Buffalo Gold Proof Coin on Thursday, October 29. It was the only collector oriented release for 2009 as all w uncirculated and fractional denominations were cut in late 2008. The United States Mint also announced that there will be "no mintage or household order limit for this product." Which came as a surprise but was a welcomed announcement by the gold coin collectors community.

The overall design remains unchanged for all Gold Buffalo Coins since their release in 2006 with both the obverse and reverse of the Gold Buffalo coins share the same basic design that first appeared on the 1913 circulating nickel, commonly known by most as either the "Indian Head Nickel" or the "Buffalo Nickel." This classic coin is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful ever produced by the US Mint and ran until 1938, when it is discontinued in favor of the Thomas Jefferson design. Coins are released with classic designs for higher sales. The obverse shows the image of an Indian leader. The reverse contains an image of an American buffalo, also known as a bison. The coins are struck at the US Mint facility at West Point Mint and bear the "W" mint mark.

2008 W Uncirculated Gold Buffalo. Released July 22, 2008.

The United States Mint announced early in 2008 that they were going to release a collectible uncirculated gold buffalo coins. These collectible additions were minted in 4 fractional denominations as well as a 4 coin package. The 2008 W Uncirculated Gold Buffalo coins are struck on specially burnished blank and carry the “W” mint mark on the obverse side of the coin above the mint year.

The coins were finally available for public purchase on July 22, 2008. There was no ordering limitations on these coins and instead were minted based on demand. The coins were available individually in the four denominations $50 face value one ounce coin, $25 face value one-half ounce coin, $10 face value one-quarter ounce coin, and $5 face value one-tenth ounce coin as well a complete 4 coin set which was a special package with one of each of the denominations. The United States Mint announced late in 2008 that they would be reducing the number of collectible product offerings and fractional denominations making the 2008 Fractional Gold Buffalo coins a one year only offering.

8-8-08 Double Prosperity Set. Released on August 1st, 2008.

The United States Mint announced July 22, 2008 the introduction of a new celebration coin product named the 8-8-08 Double Prosperity Set. The 8-8-08 Double Prosperity Set, priced at $1298.95, features one 24-karat American Buffalo One-Half Ounce Gold Uncirculated Coin and one 22-karat American Eagle One-Half Ounce Gold Uncirculated Coin. Both coins carry the “W” mint mark for the West Point Mint. The celebration package went on sale at the Mint’s online website on August 1, 2008.

The 8-8-08 Double Prosperity Set is aimed to be attractive to Chinese and Asian Gold coin collectors. Chinese people in particular associate the number 8 with good luck as their Chinese word for prosperity sounds very similar to the Chinese word for number 8. Even tho the package has a release date of August 1st, 2008 it really aimed so people can buy them and gift them on August 08, 2008 or 08-8-08. 2008 American Buffalo Celebration Coin. Released on February 5, 2008.

On February 5, 2008 the United States Mint released a special edition of the 2008 Gold Buffalo Coin named the 2008 American Buffalo Celebration Coin. The only difference from the usual gold buffalo bullion release is the packaging is aimed at bullion coin collectors in Asia countries.

The coin was packaged in a small red gift box along with a certificate of authenticity with the mark of the United States Mint Director, Edmund C. Moy. The celebration package contains exactly one 24 karat 2008 $50 Gold Buffalo Bullion Coin the same available through regular US Mint Gold coin sellers. The price for the 2008 American Buffalo Celebration coin at the time of release at $1018.88 which was later increased to $1118.88 and was adjusted as the price of gold increased rapidly on 2008.

The 2007 American Gold Buffalo Proof Coin marks the second proof release of the 24 karat Gold Buffalo Series. The 2006 gold buffalo proof version was a total sucess with 246,267 sales for the Proof Collector version. The 2007 gold buffalo proof was released on May 23, 2007 by the United States Mint with an public going price of $825.95 and a mintage limit of 200,000 coins. The 2007 gold buffalo proof release only sold 58,998 out of the possible 200k even tho it sold only a portion of the previous year sales, it still outperformed the 2007 gold eagle proof.

2006 $50 Gold Buffalo Proof Coin

The Presidential One Dollar Coin Act of 2005 authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury to strike one ounce, 24 karat (.9999) fine gold bullion coins. These are the first pure gold coins ever issued by the United States Mint. The Gold Buffalo Proof was minted for collectors and was issued directly by the United States mint with an initial mintage limit of 300,000 coins. The Gold Buffalo Proof were issued at the time for $800 dollars, today the market price is around $1200 to $1350 dollars and going up due to the raising price of gold.

2006 Gold Buffalo Proof Coin Design

The 2006 Gold Buffalo Proof Coin is almost a replica of the 1913 Buffalo Nickel designed by the widely known sculptor James Earle Fraser.The face side of the Gold Buffalo coin features an American Indian chief and the word "Liberty" and the mint mark for the year. The back side design is the same American bison standing on a mound of dirt, which many people believe is based on Black Diamond, a real-life buffalo of the New York Bronx Zoo back then.
