First Spouse Gold Coins Design
The obverse of each coin depicts a portrait of the First Spouse. It has the name of the spouse, years served and the order of the Presidency. It also has the mint date and mint mark with the mottoes “In God We Trust” and “Liberty”. The reverse depicts an unique portrait which is emblematic of the spouse’s life and work. Each coin is required by law to depict the words: “The United States of American”, “E Pluribus Unum”, the face value “$10″ the gold content”1/2 oz.” and the composition of the gold “.9999 Fine Gold.” If one of the President served in office without a spouse, an image emblematic of the concept of “Liberty” will be used on the obverse of the coin. In most cases this will be represented by using a design from a United States coin which circulated during the President’s term of office. The coins were produced in proof and uncirculated versions to please both collectors and investors.
